Chlamydia is an infection predominately spread through sexual contact.  It is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STD) in the United States, responsible for an estimated four million cases each year.  Chlamydia can be successfully treated with antibiotics.  In 1998, there was 22,001 reported cases of chlamydia in Michigan. The rate of chlamydia incidence was 225 per 100,000 persons.  The rate of chlamydia in Van Buren County was 173 and in Cass County the rate was 135.  Both Cass and Van Buren Counties are below the state average.
